Chocolate Hills

Thank you for checking out my post. Please visit my new blog https://letsgoady.com/travel/. I am posting there every week about my recent travels and lifestyle. Thank you. XOXO -ady

Chocolate... No, it’s a Hill... Yes, it’s Chocolate Hills!

From the town of Bilar, we then proceed to the town of Carmen which is almost a 30 minutes ride. Even if the weather is freaking hot, we still manage to have a quick nap inside the van.

I suddenly woke up when I heard our van driver telling his stories again. He said that during summer season the color of the grasses on the hill turns brown but eventually change to mint green during Rainy Seasons.  He also said that some claims that the Chocolate Hills are just man-made and they just trimmed out those grasses. But how would the local maintain all this approximately 1268 hills? By the way, the chocolate hills are consist of Limestone and Corals.

The site is located at the top of the hill. So the vehicle still needs to go up hill. But before we go there, our van stops on the side of the road. Our tour guide asked if we want to have some artistic shot (they said – jump shot while riding a broom) on a big tarpaulin backdrop image of the Chocolate Hills. But since any moment, we will able to see the real one, so we just said NO. Anyway, the picture costs 100 pesos per shot. So it’s up to you if want to try!

While going uphill, our van driver tells another story. He said that before, the Chocolate Hills is known as Carmen Hills but one day a tourist noticed that the Hill looked like a Chocolate because of its brown color.

There is a restaurant uphill, you may choose to just stay there and enjoy the view or you can go to the top of the hill to experience and witnessed the great scenery that the place may offer.

After taking some photos near the restaurant, we all decided to go to the top of the hill. The entrance is a long steep of stairs, approximately 216 steps. But you may opt to choose the flat one but still steep path ways. And yes, we've chose the flatten one.

From the top, you’ll witness an amazing panorama of the surroundings. The trail is actually tiring but when you reached the top, all your sufferings will be paid off.

There’s a wishing well with a bell above it. I've just noticed it when women bang it three times. There’s also a scary section there where you could test your fear of heights. But be careful since it’s already the edge.

As we go down, I've saw a big tarp similar to the tarp that we've saw before going up the hill entrance. But it’s rolled up so I guess they are not free of use and is used for a picture souvenir business.
