Yup. It’s
the Tarsier!
After
having our lunch on a floating restaurant, it’s now time to continue our land
trip. Our next stop is the Tarsier
Sanctuary.
Originally situated at the town of Corella, the sanctuary is transferred to Loboc since the former is off the tourist path. Way before, tourists can interact and touch them. But in their new location, tourists can just see them up close and personal and take pictures with them but are not allowed to touch them anymore. Our van driver said that the policy suddenly changed because there are cases of Tarsiers dying due to visitors possibly not handling them with care and these primates are known to be easily stressed out.
The
sanctuary entrance has a wide space of waiting area and where the cashier booth
is located. For 60pesos, you can now enter the up-hill viewing area and comes
up with a pretty Tarsier Postcard!
The trail
has different signs to follow like directions and guidelines that visitors
should follow since this charming little tarsiers are really sensitive.
When we
visited the sanctuary there are only 15 tarsiers displayed. I guess I missed
some of them since I’ve just asked the personnel regarding the head count when
we are already at the middle of the trail. And also they are actually hard to
find and not easily noticeable. You’ll just able to become aware of them when a
pile of people are like doing commotion on a particular area.
Also, these
tiny guys looked like they are in disguise since they are covering with a dried
leaves and plywood above. This actually serves as an umbrella for them in case
it rains.
After the
trail, you will pass on a bunch of Tarsier Souvenir Items and delicacies. There are wide varieties to choose from!
Also, don’t forget to take a picture with the Tarsier but look alike Bat sculpture
outside. Seriously they looked like a Bat because of their wide and white
teeth. :)
Worry about
finding a comfort room? It’s not a problem with this place. You can easily
proceed on the entrance beside the Cashier booth. There are staffs waiting outside
to assist you and ask you if you want some free tissue!
